Dengue fever is a virus-caused disease that is spread by Aedes mosquitoes. Dengue fever begins with a sudden high fever, often as high as 105°F (40.5°C), 4 to 7 days after the infection. Dengue fever can result in a decrease in white blood cell and platelet counts. The normal platelet count in the body ranges from 150000 to 450000.  Sometimes it reduces less than 40,000 in the case of dengue patients. The warning signs of dengue are red rashes on the body, fatigue, headache, joint aches, muscle aches, nausea and vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, cough and sore throat.

There is no specific antiviral medicines are available which prevents complications in dengue. Only symptomatic treatment of dengue is available in market such as Acetaminophen (Paracetamol) is used to treat a high grade fever. Fluids are given if there are signs of dehydration. Some cases require platelet infusions and fluid management. Dengue haemorrhagic fever, if untreated, has a mortality rate of 10-20%.
